On Saturday, May 1, Chicago North Shore kicked off a cross town classic against the long rival Chicago Women's RFC.
This match is always a team favorite since it is a battle for our history. Chicago North Shore was founded from previous players of Chicago Women's RFC. The tradition arose to make this match a battle like none other. And doing so, we award the player with the most North Shore heart and spirit on the pitch the glorious North Shore battle axe. The day was cold, wet, and muddy, but although the match was not the prettiest form of rugby North Shore pulled out the Win with a slaying 36-0 victory. The battle axe winners are Gabby from the first side and Abby from the second. Our Shark Eating Kitty (women of the match) winner is Lizzy Bristow. Well done ladies!
A second side motley of Chicago North Shore and Chicago Women's RFC kicked off against Northern Illinois University following the first match. Thanks to all our fans for coming our in the rain and cold - but especially our Old Girls! You are the reason these matches are so important.
With the win against Chicago Women's RFC the battle was not over yet. Since the Midwest lost the second seed to playoff for the Women's Division 1 club level; Chicago North Shore needed a win from Detroit against Minnesota Valkyries to guarantee the playoff spot. Detroit delivered with a tough match against Minnesota at there home pitch. Chicago North Shore will travel to the twin cities on May 8th for the final league match of the season knowing that the playoff position is no longer in jeopardy.
The countdown begins. #PutOnAShow
