Chicago North Shore Wants You!

Chicago North Shore, a Women’s Premier League Organization, is looking for a dedicated and driven coach for our summer 7s season. The club plans to compete competitively in the Midwest 7s qualifier series with the intention of earning a spot at the USA Rugby national tournament. Note that the 15s WPL season overlaps with the Midwest qualifiers, the WPL season ends June 26, so ideal candidates should demonstrate the ability to design development plans early in the season that adapt to this overlap. North Shore has been actively recruiting university and international players and we view our coach as an asset to the program that would continue to draw in talent. The ideal candidate has the leadership skills and strategic knowledge to help North Shore continue to grow and develop as one of the nation’s top women’s rugby clubs, with the ultimate goal of winning a National Championship.

Coaching role includes:

  • Development of the overall team and subunit strategy

  • Provide feedback to help the team and individuals learn and grow

  • Planning of team practices on Mondays and Wednesdays in season

  • Work with team leaders to select players for game-day roster

  • Attend all matches and tournaments

 

Schedule:

  • Summer 2022 season (5/26 to 8/30/2022) 

  • Midwest Summer 7s Qualifier Series

    • Saturday, June 11, 2022 - Madtown 7s in Madison, Wisconsin (Involvement TBD)

    • Saturday, June 18, 2022 - Cin City 7s in Cincinnati, Ohio

    • Saturday, July 9, 2022 - Gateway 7s in St. Louis, Missouri

    • Saturday, July 23, 2022 - MWRFU Championships, Chicago Blaze Rugby Facility in Lemont, Illinois.

    • Discussions around additional tournaments/events, final schedule TBD

  • Team practices Mondays/Wednesdays from 7-9 pm in Chicago (Independence Park)

    • Mondays/Wednesdays starting in July

    • Thursdays in June while schedule overlaps with the WPL

 

Requirements:

  • Level 200 or above coaching certification

  • Ability to travel with the team to away league matches and tournaments

  • Ability to commit to entire summer season, and ideally an interest to continue coaching into the future seasons

  • Must have previous experience coaching and/or playing rugby 7's

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of coaching experience

  • Experience coaching women

  • Championship rugby experience

 

Compensation:

  • This is a part-time position

  • Match related travel expenses paid for by the club

  • Stipend also offered, negotiable to reflect coaching experience

About the team:

Chicago North Shore is a top ranked 7s program and placed 11th at the National Championship in 2021. The current roster consists of approximately 20 dedicated athletes with experience ranging from brand new rookie to past and aspiring Women’s Eagles.

 

Chicago North Shore was founded as a DII club and played its first game as a 7s team during the Summer of 1995. North Shore’s first trip to Sweet Sixteens was 2002 where we placed 10th in the country. In 2010, the team made its first trip to the Division I Final Four and took home 3rd. Finally, in 2011 we made our first trip to the National Championship Finals. We entered playoffs ranked #8 and ended up winning the National championship. We returned to the National Championship Finals in 2014 and 2016, claiming second place both times. Since then, we have been asked to join the Women’s Premier league, the highest level of competition available to women – consisting of the top

10 teams nationwide.

  • 2010 - first trip to D1 Final Four (3rd place)

  • 2011 - D1 National Champions

  • 2012 - D1 playoffs (5th place)

  • 2014 - D1 National Championship 2nd place

  • 2015 - D1 National Quarter finalist

  • 2016 - D1 National Championship 2nd place

  • 2017 - D1 playoffs (5th place)

  • 2017 – WPL 8th place finishers

  • 2018 - Summer Sevens 3rd in the Midwest

  • 2018 - WPL 8th place finishers

  • 2019 - Summer Seven 2nd in the Midwest

  • 2021 -  Summer Seven 2nd in the Midwest and 11th place at Nationals
