Hiring: 15s and 7s Assistant Coaches

Competitive Women’s Rugby Club Looking for Dedicated Assistant Coaches

 




Chicago North Shore Rugby Club is looking to add dedicated and driven assistant coaches to both our 15s and 7s programs. For 15s, the club competes in the Women’s Premier League and for 7s, we compete in the Midwest 7’s qualifier series with full intent of earning a spot at the USA Rugby Club 7’s Nationals. The ideal candidate has the leadership skills and strategic knowledge to help North Shore continue to grow and develop as one of the nation’s top rugby programs.

Assistant Coaching role includes:

  • Collaborate on and execute Head Coach driven team strategy/vision/culture

  • Collaborate with Head Coach to plan practice sessions

  • Provide feedback to aid the team and individuals towards development goals

  • Work with Head Coach and team leaders to select match roster

  • Attendance at training sessions (matches/tournaments to be negotiated)

 

Schedule/Timing:

  • 15s

  • Preseason: Feb-March​

  • Competitive Schedule (TBA): April-September

  • 7s

  • Summer 2023 season (approx May through mid-August)

  • Midwest Summer 7’s Qualifier Series (final TBA by Midwest)

  • Usually mid-June thru July

  • 3-4 tournaments (including the MWRFU Championship)

  • USA Club Rugby Sevens Nationals

  • August: tentatively 1st, 2nd, or 3rd weekend of August (TBA)

  • Team practices (tentatively)

  • Tuesdays/Thursdays 7-9pm May-August

 

Requirements:

  • Level 200 or above coaching certification

  • Attendance at all tournaments (negotiable based upon Midwest 7s schedule)

  • Ability to commit to entire summer season, and ideally an interest to continue coaching into the future seasons

  • Must have previous experience coaching and/or playing rugby 7's

  • Willingness to collaborate with and work under North Shore’s Head Coach

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of coaching experience

  • Experience coaching women

  • Championship rugby experience

 

Compensation:

  • This is a part-time position

  • Stipend also offered, negotiable to reflect coaching experience

About the team:

Founded in 1995, Chicago North Shore is a highly competitive women’s club that participates in the Women’s Premier League, the top 10 teams in the USA. In 2022, North Shore finished 6th. Before joining the WPL, North Shore had multiple top finishes, including a national championship, in the USA Rugby Women’s Division 1 series. North Shore recently placed 4th at USA Rugby Club 7s nationals in August 2022, the same year winning 1st place in the Midwest 7s series.  

The club consists of approximately 30 dedicated athletes with experience ranging from brand new rookie to past and aspiring Women’s Eagles. North Shore partners with Chicago Women (D1) and Chicago Sirens (D2) as part of the Chicago Rugby Club, and recruits from local colleges to international athletes. The organization is a 501c3 not-for-profit that volunteers time giving back to the community and is managed by a board of directors.

  • 2021 - 2nd in the Midwest and 11th place at Nationals

  • 2022 – 1st in Midwest and 4th place at Nationals
